Child care tax credits

PLEASE HELP. I notified tax credits of my reduction in child care fees at the beginning of January. As I was only receiving £100 a year towards child care I wasn't expecting any drastic change in my tax credits. However, I received my award notice today and my payments have dropped by £140 a month.
My Childccare element of working tax credit has reduced, which I was expecting but my Child tax credit element has also been reduced. I was NOT expecting this to change, I thought it would just be the Childccare element of working tax credit.
I've phoned them but they say it's correct as Childccare effects both parts. I'm not so sure, does anyone else know if this is right?
Thanks in advance!:sad::sad::sad:

OP having childcare costs on your claim affects your claim in 2 ways, you get the "childcare element" but having childcare on your claim increases the income threshold (the amount you can earn) so it affects your ctc tooSaving money like a trouper...0

That makes sense as On my previous award notice I didn't get any wtc, £100 childcare and the full amount/ no reductions on child/family element.
On my new award I have no wtc, £84.36 childcare and a reduction of 276.40 due to income on child/family element.
I'm very :sad: now x0 -
Ummmmm, I'm now even more confused! My entitlement has dropped by 292.04 a year which equals 22.46 every 4 weeks, so why have my payments dropped by 140 every 4 weeks?!?0

hmm not sure...did you tell them straight away? If you didnt tell them when the change happened then your payments would drop drastically as there is only a few weeks left until the end of the tax year. Other than that I would phone and check just in caseSaving money like a trouper...0

Yep told them on the day it changed!0
