I just called up to cancel my account and I was told that because i've paid until 28 feb if she cancelled now i would lose that extra month.
I told her the normal procedure is for an account to run to the date its paid up to and then simply end [28th feb in this case].
She said the system won't let her do that and I need to call back on 24th feb.
Sorry but i'm not jumping through there hoops, what is the quickest way to end this asap? I've never heard so much garbage in my life, if this is really how their systems work they are running a Mickey Mouse operation and if they are hoping i forget to cancel on the 24th that's even worse frankly.
Up to now service was ok but i recommend people avoid them if they want to pull this kind of garbage.

BT do the same thing. I realised on Jan 14th that I am still paying a couple of pound a month for unlimited calls to France.
As I now pay for my calls through SKY and only have line rental with BT I wanted to cancel that.
Same thing applies, because it is a rolling 12 month contract I can only cancel within a few days of the end of the year which means I have to continue to pay till next November AND remember to ring them on Nov 24th or it rolls another year.
They know I cant use it yet still insist they cant cancel till next November. Ive been paying it 5 years and have to continue.
These companies are pathetic.0 -
I contacted customer services, and yes i'm fully aware cancelling a direct debit will not cancel the contract.Hi,
Please be aware I contacted the relevant number today to cancel my account and was told that because I am paid up until 28th february they could not cancel my account without losing the extra months subscription.
I asked why the cancellation could not occur today and the subscription run to the date it is paid until and was told the system did not allow it and I would have to call again on the 24th of February.
This is NOT acceptable, either your system is not fit for purpose or you are purposefully exercising an unethical policy of forcing cancellations within an arbitrarily small window in the hopes your customers will forget to cancel and be forced to pay an additional month.
Regardless I would like to use this opportunity to offer written confirmation that I am requesting the immediate cancellation of this account. I will not be contacting you again on the 24th of February and will be contacting my bank to advise them of the end of the contract on the 28th of February. Any attempt to remove money from my account after the 28th will be dealt with robustly.
I look forward to your correspondence,
Best Wishes,

Is Lovefilm not a continuous card payment rather than DD though?I contacted customer services, and yes i'm fully aware cancelling a direct debit will not cancel the contract.
Oh has fallen foul of this too.
And forgot to ring back (a long time ago) so we're paying. And never use it. We might have a DVD somewhere, that moved house with us 3 months ago but didn't watch it.0 -
I had a lovefilm account which I scaled down to streaming only last year, when I changed my postal rentals to Blockbuster as the choice of titles was better.
I kept the lovefilm for a bit, but when I realised I wasn't going to be using it, I cancelled it. Just before Xmas I got a call out of the blue from them offering me 2 months for the price of one, I took them up on the offer, but then I never used it again, so I made sure I cancelled before the date, so I didn't end up paying for another month.
Never again, it's waste of money. I've got the subscription with Blockbuster and I have sky anytime, so there's always plenty to watch!Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £10,153.440 -
Seems a bit strange.
I rang and cancelled mine about a week before the payment date, and gave my last couple of CDs to someone else to post back for me. Who forgot. When I found out a couple of weeks later I put them in post and got an email saying that the account was now cancelled. So...that's a few weeks from my ringing to their cancelling (fair enough) so why can't they do that for you? It was obviously kept on my account record that I'd wanted to cancel.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -
I know they used to do that (very dodgy imo) but thought they had stopped once netflix arrived and allowed online cancellation with no loss of service already paid for. Handy to know they've started it up again.0

I got a response straightaway saying the account would expire once the discs are back, low and behold my account is marked as such on the website. Sometimes you just need to write to let them now your not a mug.0
