There is a thread for existing customers, but I'm wondering what have new Virgin media customers managed to haggle - options and price?
I'd like to know if its possible to haggle with them.
Thanks

They only normally negotiate with people who are out of the 12 months contract. New customers pay the prices shown on their site.0 -
You're telling me!
I rang Sky and I can get:
TV with Sports
8 MB BB
24/7 phone
Sky+
for 42 plus 11 BT line rental
Virgin media are nowhere near that price and will not entertain any sort of price matching.
And here was me thinking Virgin were cheapest.....unless I've missed something?!?!?0 -

Is that with 6 mixes . That package is quoted on their website as £47 a month (+ £11 l.r.) plus £99 for the box plus £60 installation . Might be an introductory discount ?
Upgrading VMs 3 for £30 offer to include Sports , 24/7 phone and 4mb BB should be about £60 ?
Or consider the VIP pack . XL TV , XL fone , XL BB , V+ box plus a second normal box , Sports and Movies .0 -
I'm thinking about playing the VM money back gaurentee - getting the service then trying to cancel after 28 days and seeing if its possible to haggle then.
Its a lot of messing about to get a discount, but could be worth it.0 -

That looks pretty good. I might join Sky soon as i have just cancelled my Virgin media subscription as they were ripping me off and when i called retentions i just got some bolshy woman who wanted to quote directly from sales literature rather than listen and respond to what i was actually saying. So she finally pushed me over the edge.Instigated terrorism the road to dictatorship.0 -

Don't make stupid decision based on speaking to 1 person.
Leave it & phone back.
Important to understand that lot of customer service people are undertrained/incompetent/idiots/bored/uninterested !!
Don't cause longterm unnecessary problem for yourself because you spoke to an idiot.

Was she called Denise?! I dealt with an awful woman from retentions called Denise, and when I raised my voice after virgin media's complete incompetence, and she showed very little understanding, she had the cheek to tell me not to speak to her in that manner! I was so angry when I put the phone down. I spoke to her manager, and when he told me he would get Denise to call me back later, i told him i would prefer to not to deal with her!0 -
When I first got NTL about 2 years ago I always seemed to get the undertrained/incompetent people . But recently (whether its to do with the Virgin changes or just plain luck) , anytime I've phoned up in the last few months I have gotten very friendly , well trained people .0

hi there,
wonder whether anyone can help....
am planning to get a virgin media package of broadband, landline and tv fairly soon. Has anyone had any luck in getting the package for less than the advertised internet price when speaking to the sales rep on the phone.
Also is the contract 12 months or 18 months?
thanks for the help in advance..

Virgin Media lose 70,000 customers
Aug 9 2007 by Alistair Houghton, Liverpool Daily Post
VIRGIN Media has revealed the impact of its row with BSkyB after cable and broadband customer numbers fell by 70,000 in the quarter to June 30.
The group, which has well in excess of 100,000 television, phone and broadband customers in Merseyside, estimated 40,000 of the subscribers were lost because of Sky’s removal of its basic channels from the Virgin Media television platform on March 1.
The two companies failed to agree terms on pricing for the channels, including Sky One and Sky News, but Virgin said yesterday it expected the impact of the row to be contained within the second quarter.
Virgin, which has about 2,000 employees in Merseyside, has sought to bolster its own content offering with initiatives including a partnership with sports broadcaster Setanta.
Virgin’s customer base stood at 4.7m at the end of June 30, down 70,300 on the previous quarter and causing consumer revenues to fall to £619.3m from £637.3m reported for the first quarter this year.
The company, formed from mergers involving Telewest, NTL and Virgin Mobile, said it remained the UK’s largest residential broadband supplier, with 3.5m subscribers.
BT has around 3.8m broadband customers, but an estimated 700,000 of those are from the business sector.
Fixed-line telephone subscriber losses in the quarter were 56,900, which was an improvement on the 63,400 reverse seen in the first quarter.
Virgin said it had changed the way it markets and sells its telephone packages, in an effort to reverse the recent poor performance of the operation.
Overall, the group posted operating profits of £3m, against operating losses of £15.3m a year ago.
Virgin Media chief executive Steve Burch said: “The second-quarter results show encouraging broadband and mobile contract growth, a resilient performance by our TV business and signs that our fixed line telephony business is starting to react to renewed management focus.”
On Tuesday, Virgin Media said it had given potential bidders more time to put together their takeover plans after receiving “strong” interest in a possible deal for the firm.
A month ago, Virgin said it had received a takeover offer for the business, a £5.5bn move which analysts say is thought to have come from private equity firm Carlyle.
