DVLA / Inter-Credit International Fine
Help!
My tax was due in July 2012, I paid on time but unknowlingly with an expired cheque book. The DVLA wrote to let me know so I immediately called them and paid over the phone (October 2012).
I thought that that was the end of it, except yesterday I received a letter from Inter-Credit International saying I must pay an out of court settlement of £80 or my car might be seized/court action may commence.
I haven't received any letters from the DVLA regarding this fine, so I was very alarmed to receive a letter from a debt collection agency.
What should I do now? I don't really understand why I've been fined as I've always shown willingness to pay for my tax (as far as I'm concerned, the payment just took time to process).
I'm about to apply for my first mortgage and I *REALLY* don't want any of this showing on my credit ratings.

So the DVLA took 3 months to tell you that your cheque had bounced?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Yep! I guess it takes time for them to process the paper work? And it was all tied in with getting a new log book too.maninthestreet wrote: »So the DVLA took 3 months to tell you that your cheque had bounced?0 -

The 'out of court settlement offer' is an offer to settle the matter instead of being prosecuted for the offence.0 -
That's what I was thinking. I have one which must be at least 7 years old, never use the things these days. I used it recently to pay a speeding fine. No problems.alanrowell wrote: »Since when do cheque books expire?
Maybe DVLA dragged their heels so much cashing the thing it had expired that way.0
