An interesting article from the Independent about cloud storage, and how safe/private information is.
http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/news/british-internet-users-personal-information-on-major-cloud-storage-services-can-be-spied-upon-routinely-by-us-authorities-8471819.html
I expect this will make US visa applications quick, they'll just have to take a look at your NHS, tax and police records...

Sadly, this isn't new information.
Basically, if your cloud storage provider is not in the UK (and by that, I mean, data held in UK Datacentre), then your data is not protected by UKDP law.
If you have a UK Cloud provider who stores in the US, then you are not protected. That includes some of the major ones, ie:
Apple
Dropbox
SkyDrive
It's pretty simple really.0 -

It goes further than that, many people are not aware the US government have easy access to any data stored in the 'clouds'. One thing is knowing theoretically that it may happen, another is to have it spelled out, particularly when we are talking about government information, such as NHS, police, HMRC etc.
Also people who buy the new google Chromebook laptops for example, would make all their activity and data easily accessible.0 -
That's why I use "SpiderOak" everything encrypted on your machine before being sent to "The Cloud". Only you can see the contents of your Cloud Storage.
It's a lot easier than messing around with something like TrueCrypt and DropBoxLaters

I'm concerned about the fact that one can't encrypt the data held about them, rather than by them, which other people control, e,g, the government0
