I have had a MBNA credit card now for some 15 - 20 years and had ran up a huge balance (c£12500). I have never missed a single payment and within the the next few weeks I will be in a position to pay off the balance (now around £9000). am i in a position to negotiate a lower settlement fee?

If you have the money to pay the full balance off, why would you want to negotiate? You spent the money, so you need to pay it back.Total Mortgage OP £61,000Outstanding Mortgage £27,971Emergency Fund £62,100I AM NOW MORTGAGE NEUTRAL!!!! <<Sep-20>>0

You would only be able to negotiate a settlement if you had difficulty paying and had defaulted on your agreement but of course defaulting will screw your credit file for 6 years.
Pay off what you owe and be thankful you actually have the means to do so.We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
