Low emissions Vs Low road tax

Can't find the advert now  but I noticed on auto-trader road tax as low as £35.00

What groups qualify for low road tax?

    Band A - £0 RFL
    Band B - £20 RFL
    Band C - £30 RFL

    (last I checked)

Band A cars have emissions below 100g/km, there are quite a few in the marketplace now.
And that my son, is how to waft a towel!

I'm considering P/X for a 2nd hand car, where can I find what car is in each group?

And you have to rely on goverments not messing around with the price bands should one invest for this reason.

Like when LPG was vat exempt but that didn't last long.

And you may pay ££££'s more for a car to save £100 a year tax?

As mentioned it soon starts to creep up. Mines got up £35 in 3 years. As manufacturers start to fiddle the figures and all cars produce zero pollution who pays for all that lost revenue?

Buy an old classic RangeRover free tax... But an older LandRover and no MOT either.
So according to that they must be enviromentally friendly to be free.

Exactly what nobody ever seems to think about, blindly got their head set on some tiny Eurobox, forgetting to look at the big picture or choosing to ignore it (because it requires grey matter).

It doesn't have to be. The last time I bought a new car, I went for the "eco" model which was one tax band lower than the standard one. The price was exactly the same.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Yeah but some people seem to want to buy a car for £££££ to save £100 a year on tax and get an extra 5mpg.

Looking at the bigger picture they probably are environmentally friendly. They have outlasted their peers many times over and not had to be replaced thus saving the emissions created during manufacture. This is not insignificant if you consider that the embodied emissions of the average car typically rival its exhaust pipe emissions over its entire lifetime.
  • Suzuki Alto 1.0 litre 5 Door (2009 on model). £20 road tax, Group 1 insurance, approx 60 MPG. Second hand for between £3-£5k OR £5999 for a brand new one from your local dealer!

Not that I'm biased or anything :-)
