My poor boy...Prostate Cancer??

Took my boy to the vet today as he had been having problems with toileting both ends. It started with him having problems when pooing, he would keep trying to go and very little came through. However, yesterday I noticed that he was having difficulty when trying to wee and was constantly visiting the garden. Apart from this, he has seemed quite well in himself and still eats and drinks and wants to go for walks, albeit shorter ones than usual.

Anyway, the vet suspected a prostate problem as soon as I told her the symptoms and she gave him a rectal exam and said his prostate was enlarged and that it could be prostate cancer due to his age (11). She has given him Loxicom which he already takes for his arthritis anyway and pencillin antibiotics to see whether these will shrink the prostate but I could tell that she is not very hopeful.

I am totally devastated....my poor Dad is battling advanced prostate cancer and now it seems like my darling boy has been struck down with it also.

I am trying to remain positive....but it is so difficult.

Thanks for reading.

Hope it turns out to be not as bad as you fear. It's horrible when they are ill - you feel so helpless.

    Sending you hugs

I also hope it is not as bad as it seems and that the treatment sorts it out.

Sorry to read that your father is suffering advanced prostate cancer.

I hope the treatment for your dear pet, is beneficial and that things might not be as bad as they seem at the moment. It is such a worry, i know, but i am sure you are doing all you can.
