I would recommend trying windows 8 before buying it, it really is not everyone's "cup of tea". Personally i cant stand it and have had several customers with windows 8 laptops ask me to put 7 on for them.

Last time i was in PC world they had windows 8 computers to trial, if it was me i would install 2gb ram and keep 7.

EDIT: I have just checked and your laptop wont accept any more ram.

    ? Dot S takes 2GB
  • Thanks for the replies Elliot and Molerat. I will check out the 2gb Ram option but I think taking the keyboard apart is a bit beyond me!

I'll add my 1d worth... for such a low spec its not worth updating (but Windows 7 starter must be pretty poor?). HOWEVER, I'd still buy the Win8Pro upgrade for £15 and use it on another computer. Do you have, or know somebody, with an XP or VISTA computer? Or even sell the key...(Buy before end of Feb and can be installed anytime before ...some time in 2015).
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

Thanks grumpy! So have I got the date wrong? I thought I only had till the end of January to get the offer? And excuse me being really dim but is the key not tied to the netbook? So could I use it on another computer?

Unless the "£15 offer" instructions came with the netbook, enter your details at this link (you don't pay anything at this stage).
    https://www.windowsupgradeoffer.com/en-GB/Registration

If this works you'll get an offer code and instructions on how to purchase the upgrade (which you should do before the end of the month). After you purchase the upgrade you get your upgrade key which you can use on any XP, VISTA or Windows7 computer, not necessarily your netbook.

The upgrade will also be downloaded and at the END you get the option to apply it or save it. Choose the latter if you don't want to apply it. Note that the downloaded upgrade will only work on 32-bit computers (because that's what your netbook is). But perhaps that's too much info for one day...

Sorry for the delay in replying! Many thanks for your advice! That's a great idea and I think I will get the upgrade to put on my laptop. I didn't realise that was possible!
