Are you talking about Aldi or Asda? Asda haven't even got planning permission yet, as they've only recently put in their proposed plans. As for Aldi, I think it's in Sandown, which is the one and only place on the island I really dislike. If, though, it's in Shanklin, we may go over and see what it's like when the weather is better. To justify the petrol, we'd want to have lunch while out, and that needs better weather. When I wanted to try some of the famous Stardrops, I had to ask my daughter to get me some from the Asda on the outskirts of Portsmouth, then had to wait until she paid us a visit. Yes, I know Tesco sell it, but I won't shop at Tesco, ever. I'm quite interested in visiting both Asda and Aldi, although I'm happy enough with shopping locally, with a monthly shop in Mr M's. Our local butcher is fantastic!0 -
They (Aldi) have done this in the past - to entice shoppers who are new I should imagine!:)
Well, I surpose that is a good idea. I do appreciate that they know their business model far better than I do :rotfl: its just that Aldi is such a little gem that I don't personally (selfishly) want it to go

and if you have never shopped in Aldi before - a couple of tips!
Take shopping bags!
load all your shopping on the belt as fast as possible, then when its your turn put your trolley into the space beside the checkout.
be prepared for your items to go through the checkout at the speed of light! just bung em in the trolley and pack at the shelf provided (it speeds up the checkout process).
The 'ettiquete' in Aldi is, if you are loading a trolleyful onto the belt then someone behind you with just a few items is invited to 'go ahead'!
OH and I love Aldi - we not only save pounds we find it more relaxing - and OH gets really wound up in one of the big four supermarkets now - he finds the checkouts far too slow!!!!!!lol
I have to say that I dont ALWAYS find Aldi cheaper than 'value' items - but the quality is usually far better.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Also applies to Lidl too.
Another tip I do is iif you have multiples of the same item eg bottles of lemonade/cola/wine etc put 1 on the belt say at the start and tell the cashier how many you have, doing this saves you having to lift them out of the trolley then back once scanned.0 -
I just wanted to express my shock at this! (I can often get a bowl full of peppers for £1 from my market stall). Ok, it may be standard for supermarket prices, but if this was my only choice I'd leave it and think about growing my own.3 peppers 1.65Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
