Plugged my Lumia 710 into my computer this evening and it offered me an update. 30 mins later I am on 7.8. Don't really know what all the fuss is about though ..... smaller icons and different colours seems to be about it

I must be special because MrsM has not been offered it for hers.

I believe you get larger ones too (once the apps are designed to work with them) and you can choose your size. The large ones work especially well for weather apps so I'm looking forward to the update for my Lumia.

Yep, the "standard" ones are larger and the right hand gutter is gone. Looks much nicer with a mix of sizes on the screen. A few things do seem to be smoother in operation as well. Forced the update on MrsM's phone rather than waiting to be told she can have it, had to force 3 updates through. http://www.wpcentral.com/forcing-windows-phone-78-update-camera-button-not-required-patience

How did you find out about the update ?

Did the phone indicate the update via the menus or did you have to go into Zune to find the update.

Also is your phone locked to a network.

The phone tells you that your update is ready. Nokia phase the deployment of updates, but you far force install the update using zune and the disconnection method.

Just updated the wifes phone, who got the phone alert on Friday.

The phone will restart about four times during the update, the final update being the nokia one. All in all takes about 20mins

I thought the 610 wasn't getting it because of the RAM limitations of that device? Or did I dream that?

Download the Windows Phone News app and keep track of it now and then. New updates and tonnes of app news appears in this app so you know about what's new and when updates will be available. It is a great app for this info.

610 is getting it, one blog is reviewing 7.8 on a 610. Tried doing a force on one and it did not want to know. May try again later when I can get hold of the phone, maybe my timings need to be different to get it to go.

To force it you need to plug the phone into Zune, select Marketplace on the handset itself which shows Connected and then check for updates. Once it starts checking wait 4-5 seconds and then remove the ethernet cable from the PC/Laptop. I followed online advice which recommended 3 seconds but I found that it wasn't working so waiting that bit longer seemed to prompt the update.
