Removing asbestos from boiler cupboard

Had a gas man round to quote for a new boiler. Said we would have to get the asbestos board removed first. This was not mentioned on my full building survey incidentally. (see other post re falling through floor!)

My first quote to have this board removed £1050!
Can this be true?!?:eek:

Depending on where you are in the country it could be, however the quotes can vary massively so shop around. You can remove it yourself but it is unwise to do so if you don't know what you are doing, it also has to be desposed of securely under regulation so you would need to get advice on that. A lot of people would say it is unnecessary to get this done professionally but if this stuff becomes airborne in your property your family's health is put at risk, it is not something that you need a lot of to cause you damage, have you had it tested and do you know which type it is? Why are you changing the boiler? has it broken down? and if so is there any resultant water damage? this may be covered under your buildings policy and consequently if the wall or stud partition behind the backboard is damaged the cost of testing (although in this case a test would be a waste of money on their part) and removing it would be covered under any such claim.
