Given their recent actions it seems like the sort of dopey thing they would do, ING must think that the majority of their customers are brain dead if they expect people to queue up for this sort of account!

But the websaver was just reduced to 5.5% !? With no tie-in!?

Yes. Given their ISA is 6.55% for 6 months (you don't have to have to take the headline rate by waiting over 12 months there) and Websaver is 5.5%* after being cut this month, they should really be pricing something at around 6.25% (for 6 months). Remember that existing members got better deals 6% in February so those that waited should expect to see something at least as good. It will be interesting to see if they do move the websaver/direct saver rates in line with the BOE rate next month.

*I think you have to open a direct saver (for £1) in order to open the websaver - which is why the websaver is not marketed on their homepage

AFAIAA they have stopped opening new websaver accounts, unless you have an existing websaver account there is no mention of it at anywhere on the ING site.:)

I've given up with ING, (and ICICI.) I closed (or requested in the case of ICICI) closure of the accounts yesterday. I have too many 'unused' accounts at the moment, and feel I've given both of these institutions enough of a chance.
