Working tax credit estimate - surely not right?!

 I went to job centre as i have been on income support for last couple of years since having my child as a single parent. The woman there did an estimate tax credit award and has come up with a staggering amount!!! I will be earning approx £218.01 per week after tax from my new job, and apparently Tax credits are going to be £45.78 (child tax element) per week AND £132.77 (working tax element) per week... now surely this cant be correct... i am only going to be paying out about £70 per week for part time childcare (day nursery) - why are they going to give me that much?!! Just wondered if anyone else is in the same-ish situation as me work/childcare/money -wise...long shot i know but i am all excited (whilst being VERY VERY sceptical!!) "Apparently" i get more cos i am going to be working over the "30hrs pr week" threshold and am a single parent......

So - what does everyone think?

I know u cant say "yay" or "nay" really as everyone is different, but is this a ridiculous amount or sound about right??:confused::confused:

That is probably correct - I know my cousin got loads as a single working parent of 2 compared to the amount she got on income support

i just popped in £260 as your Gross and came up with £121 plus Child benefit assumming £70 chid care. That is over £50 less, so i would check with Tax Credits yourself.

Waltons - i dont get any free rent etc lol.... am not in receipt of housing benefit or council tax reduction. I am not bothered if the amount i get is lower than quoted lol - but very excited to think that it may cover the WHOLE of the childcare - i was under the impression that they only pay UP TO 80% of childcare costs....?? But anything is a bonus really, isnt it!!! Thanks for help so far, and for any more!!!!
