Homing a dog when partner has an allergy

I think it will get to the point where i will get a random dog and just shave it bald. Thats gotta work right?

Fostering is such a good idea! I will definitely have that as an option
He was in a house share with the dog and it was bad the whole time he lived there, first time he'd lived with a dog. So nothing is confirmed on the allergy front. There may be other factors.0 -

It would be very irresponsible to take an animal on just hoping that this would happen. The OP has the chance to make a sensible informed decision and plan ahead so that the chances of having to rehome the dog or of her OH suffering (allergies get worse just as often as they get better) are minimised.
Oh yes it was cat first, husband second...... and husband knew his place!Make £2026 in 2026

A friend has a bad allergy to dogs but has two dogs. When she is first around a new dog she has to take antihistamines and quite a high dosage but she reduces this over time and after around six months she is fine with that one particular dog, if she has contact with any other animals she has to take antihistamines again.
She has had her one dog for three years and the other for two and is completely immune to them now even when ill. Neither are "hypoallergenic" breeds.
I am the same, i have an awful allergy to fur but after owning a dog for 6 months it seems to settle with that particular dog, I still have reactions to other dogs though. Only dogs though, the same cant be said for cats.0
