tax credits 4k difference

can anyone help, my partner has been doin over time since xmas and its expected to last til april but that means hes gonna have earned 4k more than last yr, will this affect my tax credits and if so how badly he earned around 10k 11/12 and i said it wud be the same this yr

  • Ive had this conversation with Tax Credits today. They said anything under 10K should have no effect as April 2012 - April 2013 Tax Credit payments are based on your earnings from the previous year so April 2011 - April 2012. Just make sure you update them so that from this April you are getting the correct amount. Hope this helps!

  • There is what is called an income related disregard of £10k for rises and a £2.5k one for any fall income. So your £4k will not affect this years claim. However you do need to tell them nearer to April when you have a better idea of the exact amount earned - so that onward payments for following year are not too much until you get the renewal pack in the post. At which point you tell them the exact income details from his P60 and they will adjust the award for 2013/14 then. (And the disregard for coming year is £5k).
