Help with income drop for working tax credits?

Hi all,
I start smp on 15 th feb so my income for the coming year will be a drop of approx 7k. When I renewed last yr I earnt 2 much 2 receive any payments and obviously when I renew this yr because feb 15th is so close 2 the end of the financial year I don't think I will be entitled 2 anything as I will have earnt up approx 14k up to end of march 2013! But how does this work with my income dropping I read somewhere they can adjust your payments to suit what u think ur income would be which in my case would b approx 6k ? Wil I have 2 wait until the new financial year 2 get my payments adjusted ?
