Velcro cat collars?

I'd like to put a collar on my indoor/outdoor cat but after her brother got his caught in his jaw many years back I don't, however i've just come across these velcro fastening ones http://www.funky-felines.co.uk/collars.html & wonder if anyone has tried them or what people think?

I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts before I go ordering one . . do people think they would easily release if a leg/jaw got caught? One website does the slide on tags for them also so they wouldn't need a dangling tag.

  • I think the quick release clips would release quicker than velcro. Velcro can require quite a but of force to release especially if you pull it as a cat would with its leg stuck in a collar rather than peeling it if you see what I mean.
I use collars from kittycollars (can't post links yet sorry but you should find them easy enough) with my 5 cats and we've never had any problems (touch wood)

My puss has two of these and they have been really good. The first one we bought her was a quick release one from pets at home but it was constantly coming off because I think she was getting her claws stuck in the fabric of the collar. These ones are velvety so that doesnt happen, it has only come off once when i assume she must have got it stuck in her jaw so it did its job. They also look really smart and have a reflective strip although you have to request the colour separately and you dont always get the one you want.

Edit..I agree with the post above that velcro might be hard to get off.

my little girl has had one of these

http://www.kittycollars.co.uk/ for over two years now.

comes apart easily when pulled, and can be personalized.

I'd prefer them over velcro as well.

All of mine have the quick release ones and I find they work really well.

So well in fact that my black cat Hades sussed out how to get it off by purposly hooking it on a branch and pulling  And the others have caught on to the idea too.

In the summer I find loads of collars all over the garden from where I haven't been out in the garden much in the winter the little so & so's :(

My cat Salem used to have tha Ancol brand collars and he could escape from them. I spent more time looking for it than he did wearing it which makes me think he used to take it off himself when we weren't around. Luckily for us, his was more of a fashion accessory than a necessity as he's an indoor cat.

I love your cats name Faith, I wanted to call our kitten Hades but my OH said it would be just asking for him to be a little swine if we did. Ends up Gizmo is a little swine anyway and Hades would have suited him a lot more. I do call him gremlin when hes up to no good, to be fair he is more of a gremlin than a Mogwai 80% of the time.
  • I have collars from http://www.mogstogscatcollars.com/ - not only are they really well made there are some very cool designs :D
