Over 603,000 people on incapacity benefits have been reassessed since 2010 with nearly one in every three – almost 180,000 people – now no longer eligible for sickness benefits. They will now get long term help from Jobcentre Plus and the Work Programme to find a job which is right for them.

- so 566,800 assessed:

- 231,900 [41%] were put in ESA, with ;
- 155,000 [27%] placed in the ESASG, thats a total of ;
- 386,900 [68%] are composite ESA / ESASG, and only ;
- 179,900 [32%] were found FTW

Just last week, Hoban said in the new claim group 52% were fit for work. Still 32% is better than the REDTOPS days of 75% are faking it.

  • I understood the first sentence. 1/3rd of people booted off incapacity since 2010.

    Good.

    I don't know what ESA, ESASG or FTW mean though ... so the rest of your post is gibberish, sorry :) *didn't follow links.

    ESA = employment support allowance, the thing that's replaced IB (incapacity benefit).

    ESASG = employment support allowance support group (I think), the group that your put in if its deemed your not able to work in the near future. As opposed to the work group of ESA which you only get for a year and are required to attended work focused interviews.

    FTW = fit to work? I'm not sure, it's late :o.

    Before other go off on one about "scum" claimants (!!!!) these figures only show the numbers that ATOS/DWP say are fit for work. It doesn't show how many of those 32% appeal the decision and are then deemed by the tribunal to be reinstated. All it shows is that ATOS are manipulating the figures to accommodate the governments policy. Admittedly, there are some who are fit for work, but there are also many who are genuinely incapacitated but because the government want lower claims, they are being penalised.

    I don't think people who have life threatening conditions such as heart disease, kidney disease or life limiting conditions such as cancer deserve to be referred to as "scum"

    in fact I suspect there are far more genuine claimants being removed from this benefit than anyone realises - this posters attitude is disgraceful

    I should like to see how robo989 would address the wife of a recent client of mine who after being found fit for work DIED whilst waiting for his tribunal. Needless to say his tribunal was successful and his wife will now have little money from DWP paid into his estate. Money, that he should have been awarded to start with given the severity of his illness. Then again robo989 would probably be pleased with this outcome as it is one less 'scum' draining the welfare state.
