Help needed to attempt to repair my hoover

I have a Vax bagless cylinder hoover which appears to have died on me. Before I replace it, I wouldn't mind knowing if there was a checklist of things to look for in order to work out if it can be easily fixed or not.
So far I have checked the plug (wires & fuse), both are fine.

@OP
You will need to disassemble the Vax to do any more. Ensure it is unpluggged before going any further!
The cable might of broken, so that would be the next thing to check back to the circuit board using a continuity tester or multimeter.
The switching circuit could of blown. That is what went on an older vacuum of mine, one switching transistor. A £2 part might fix that providing you have access to a soldering iron.
For that, check near the power cable input inside the vacuum and look for a 3 legged black faced component with a metal heatsink connector. Check to see that has not discoloured or shows any unusual markings. It did on mine and was quite easy to see.0 -
Some Vax machines have a 5-year guarantee, some have 2-year guarantee... before we all tell you to disassemble it, are you certain it is out of warranty?0

It is out of warranty I think, however will double check. Just got to make sure I have kept the paperwork.

If it was me, i would open the switch and test for power on the output feed of the switch. If no voltage, move along to the input on the switch, then the cable to the plug.
If you have voltage on the output side of the switch it could be the motor.
Does it have any filters? If they are blocked the motor could of over heated and the thermal switch would of shut the motor off until it colds down.
Get it repaired or buy a new one if you dont know what i am talking about.0 -
If you need parts & video clips of how to fit the parts have a look at www.espares.co.uk
Then check prices against ebay !!

Could you describe what happened at the moment between it working and then not working?
I'm also assuming, from your description that it is now doing nothing at all when you attempt to use it? No sound, movement of parts or lights coming on when you try to use it?0
