Switching Banks?

Hello friends,
I am thinking of switching my current bank account?
I am looking at doing most if not all my banking online or via an iPhone app?
Which in your opinion is the best one to switch too?
I have been looking at either nationwide or natwest?
I only want a current account at the moment with a debit card and cheque book - plain and simple I know!!!
More about being able to do max banking via iPhone app than anything!!
What are your thoughts please?
Cheers for now!
Ade

Don't know about iPhone, but I don't remember the last time I've been to my Nationwide branch - and it's my main account. They do offer an app for iPhone, but there are some restrictions compared to a normal online banking:

Where do you want to switch from and why?
  • Hi,
    From HSBC.
Why - well I thought there might be an account with a different bank that allows me to do more than the HSBC app does.
You can ONLY check your balance with the HSBC app?
Just think being able to do more via an app can only be a good thing?
I have given HSBC plenty of time to come up with a better way to mobile bank and they have just not updated it!!!
    Thanks,

The Nationwide App allows you to transfer money between accounts and make payments to existing payees. You'll need to make the first payment to a new payee on the normal internet banking site; then subsequent payments can be made through the mobile app.

If you have a default or a lot of recent missed payments then go to Natwest, as Nationwide tend to be slightly pickier about who they accept.

Note that Nationwide also tend to have pretty good 'Flexclusive' offers, for people who bank with them. I think the only ones at the moment are a cashback credit card and reduced mortgage rates, but in the past year they've had savings accounts paying 4.25% and 6% for current account customers!

I agree with the HSBC app rather missing the point of 'mobile banking'!

I doubt there re any apps that will let you create new payees, for security reasons. Certainly the RBS group apps will only let you make payments to existing payees.

After more looking and reading on the net etc I went with Nationwide.
Applied and got accepted there and then.
Just gone for Flexi current account with debit card, cheque book, telephone, pc and mobile app banking...... plus free euro travel insurance to should I need it!!!!!
Was given compleated application number and told I could apply for credit card once current account being used.
They are transfering all my direct debits and standing orders too.
I only have to write to the people that pay money INTO the account now.
    SIMPLES!!!!!
    Hello Nationwide..... Bye bye HSBC
