wifi booster for a nexus device

We live in an old house which has been extended twice over the years. We have never been able to access the internet using our laptop in the front room as our router is at the back of the house but we have got used to that. However we have now bought a nexus and want to do something to get this resolved. From what i have seen the only option available to us is a WiFi range extender as having to fit an Ethernet cable to the tablet negates the benefit for us of having the nexus. If I am right is there any particular model or make someone can recommend. Alternatively if there is something else someone can suggest I would be grateful to hear it.

to get WiFi into the garden. Used on all 3 sunny days of 2012!
This is the quick'n'cheap solution. Place it on the edge of current reception as near as possible to the target where you now need WiFi.

There are more solid solutions involving Homeplugs with a wireless access point. Budget say £60. Not tried these. Someone might be along in a moment to advise on the bes 'recipe' if you want to use Homeplugs and WiFi extension.
