Would you be offended if someone offered under asking price?

If they are not offended you've offered to much!0

Sounds like a reasonable offer to me I certainly wouldn't be offended by that in fact I don't think I would be offended by any offer.
That's not to say if it was very low I wouldn't tell you what I thought.0 -
Dont worry if you offend them - worry about saving your own money!
This is what my foreign friend means when she says English people are too polite!!
I doubt many people offer the asking price - why would you do that when you could get some money off?0 -
I was watching A Place in the Sun, Home or Away, earlier. Couple on there saw a house on at £179,950 - I looked on RM and it'd eventually sold at £130 (having also been priced at £150k, then £140k).0

I find it more satisfactory to negotiate with the seller during the viewing. You can put your side & judge their reaction more easily.0

It's a business situation. Buyer and seller are trying to find a price that both can accept. Getting emotional about it is juvenile.Free the dunston one next time too.0

I really don't think you get this.
You've just offered under 3% less than the asking price for a property that's been marketed for 6 months. Now you're worried the owner might be offended.
This property's price suggests it's not in an area of high demand. In areas like that, many people start at 10% under and negotiate upwards if they think they should. Few of them will lose sleep over it, unless the property was a bargain in the first place and right at the top of their range.
You're a first time buyer with all the advantages that brings, but you don't seem very clued-up. You won't ever be a FTB again.
If I were you, I'd be worrying that I'd not done enough research, and as as consequence, may have opened too high.0 -

I have a nasty suspicion we have always lived in this world; it's just that more people are clued-up through visiting sites like this.;)0 -
Getting gazundered 24hr before completion is offensive.0

And first offers will always get rejected if its below the asking price, just don't go back straight away with another offer when they say no. Give it at least 24hrs, unless its in high demand, but don't think it's that kind of market at the minute.
Always? That's rather a sweeping generalisation. Our first offer on the house, somewhat below asking was accepted on the house I'm sitting in now.
And when we sold a house, somehow EAs got new offers same day when we rejected...0
