Buying a new hard drive for a notebook

Options
Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. My hard drive has failed on my Advent 7000 notebook and its a ATA/IDE 4200 rpm 2.5 inch made by Hitachi. Model HTS424040M9AT00

Can I buy any 2.5 inch hard drive or do I need to buy something specific?

Cheers

You need to make sure it's ATA (sometimes called PATA), not SATA. That isn't a major problem, but they are becoming rarer.

Something like this should be fine, but it's noticeable that Amazon have very, very few PATA. In theory a 5400 rpm drive might run fractionally warmer than a 4200rpm drive, but back in the real world it's unlikely to make any difference.
