Make my car shiny!
Options
Hey everyone,
Hope someone can help me out here! I'm trying to find out what the best stuff to clean/wax etc the outside of my car is. I've got a non-metallic car, and as it's fairly new to me (and still fairly shiny), I want to keep it that way. Some people say that Mer is good car shampoo/polish, whilst others say Turtle Wax, and other people have different ideas to those 2.
What do you clean/wax/etc your car with, and would you recommend it?
Thanks!

My Husbandand would you recommend it?
Thanks!
Absolutly:rotfl:
On a serious note, if its a good car & you don't mind spending a few pound there is something called glyn (sp?) Sells on QVC, I've also seen it in Asda. It's susposed to be really good.
We use a home jetwash, buy it once & you will get lots of use out of it. You can take your time & do it properly at home.

That's brilliant stuff. Look on Ebay for Autoglym, or Wilkinson's sell it now.
Apply with a damp microfibre and polish off with dry one0 -
tescos have it too
if you want to go further and add more protection get the extra gloss protection
halfords was doing a 3 for 2 special...not sure if its still running?0 -
I use Autoglym polish. You might need to use paint restoring polish first.
I found that the round polish applicators work really well.Happy chappy0 -
After trying everything in halfords i have found the autoglym range is fantastic. Car enthusiasts swear by meguiars (sp?) Mer is ok but is hard work to get off lol0

Wow you guys are great. Didn't think I'd get so many responses this quickly.
kimevans: Your post made me laugh - I thought I might try getting my OH to clean mineNot sure she'd like that idea though...
aimee21j, tomstickland, steveo3002, odowdchr: thanks for all suggesting the same... will definitely take a trip to tesco or halfords tomorrow and get some!
I've never been so excited about cleaning my car...!!0 -
with all car polishes and waxes etc....use a little bit and you find its much easier to remove compared to caking it on
thicker application does not mean more shine /protection0 -
Autoglym is pretty good. I also occassionally use Meguiars Detailing clay to remove some bonded contaminants, which is quite good.
Autoglym tip - enter the car game on their website and if you get best time on one of thetracks at the end of the month, then you get an autoglym goody bag (mine contained resin polish, autoglym tshirt and a bag). Quite easy to get a good score after a bit of practise!
The right cloth/brush is half the battle in polishing a car I think.matched betting: £879.63
