photo driving license

I *think* my license is up for renewal in july this year, but I'm not sure. I'll try to explain as best as I can....

I suffer from myoclonic epilepsy and as such, my license if renewable every five years. I got my *photo* licence in january 2010, but i was under the impression that these were only renewble every ten years, so 2020 in my case.

On the front of the license, alongside the photo there's name,surname DOB, and nationality, and underneath that, there's 4a 19.01.10 (date i got the license), 4b 10.07.13,( renew date?), 4c DVLA (?)

FTR, I have held a full license since 30 july 1986.

So, do I have to renew my license this summer, regardless of the ten year rule regarding photo licenses? Or do I just wait for ten years, and then renew?

4b is the expiry date, you must renew it by that date rather than wait the 10 years.
It is an offence to drive when your licence has expired.

If the expiry is 10.07.13 then that category runs out this year.

Changed address or sent the form in later or anything?

Photo date is different to the date to the different categories run from.

Thanks for the reply. yes, I understood the categories were separate. So i need to reapply this year then, basically?

Yes. The renewal is because your 5 year medical renewal period expires.

10 years is for people with no restrictions on their license.

if its like the HGV medical they will send you the forms for your Doctor to fill in (that will cost you or DVLA will pay for it )
do not worry the should send them 6 weeks before it ends,if you have not got your licence back in time ring them the day before it ends ,the medical team at DVLA its on the form
they will tell you if you can keep driving or not ,and send you a letter saying that ,until your licence comes
that what they do with an HGV medical and i cannot see your's been much different apart from their looking at myoclonic epilepsy and it will be a different form
