Hi there. I paid for some goods online by card and they were faulty. Rang the company up and they said send them back. They contacted me today and said they would be refunding via cheque. Is this allowed? Do I have any rights to claim refund via my card? Thanks. Oh and the company are babyliss.

They can refund you by cheque, best practice would suggest they refund via the mechanism they were paid as to avoid the fraud and money laundering risks but assuming your not talking a large sum of money then it would be a low risk for them.
You have no right to demand via a certain mechanism but can express a preference0 -
What did they say when you asked for the refund on your card when they said they would send a cheque.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Strange policy since they would have had their fees refunded if they reversed the card payment.0

Are Babyliss the retailer or just the manufacturer?0

I have had similar experience. In my case, the company said they don't keep full details of the card which was used and they found it easier to refund by cheque.0

bcl999 is right. A company shouldn't retain your card details, hence it might well be easier to refund by cheque than to take the card number again. This is strangely comforting really - at least babyliss haven't held on to the OP's 16 digit number and security code!"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

No company should retain the CSV and it is unnecessary to have the CSV to do a refund (though poorly written software may prompt for it)0 -

You don't need full card details to refund. They will have a merchant management account where they can do stuff like issue refunds, void payments and use a cross reference ID to charge the card again... none of which require full card details.0
