What doesn't work? Building a new profile, creating bookmarks in your new profile, or retrieving your backed up bookmarks?

Why not remove firefox via Add/remove programs then reinstall again from the Mozilla website.

Might sort out a corrupt install

Have you copied and pasted the whole line from the link I gave? Before you click run, it should read

    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -profilemanager

Easier way of loading profile manager:

Start > Run > type "firefox -p" press Enter.
    "Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."
  • Have you tried starting Firefox in Safe mode

Start - Programs - Mozilla Firefox - Firefox safe mode. Try doing what you need to do there. Come back out gone into normal firefox and see if that works
