Travelodge LLandudno

Hi there

Just out of interest....

Does anybody happen to know what happened to the proposed new Travelodge in LLandudno?
Think it was meant to be on the site of the old Clarence Hotel??

Many thanks in advance!!

Work ground to a halt ages ago and the rumour was Travelodge were on the verge of going bust so they were going to abandon the site. Travelodge denied this and said the work would go ahead, I think the plan was that would be opening around about now, but I don't think there's been any sign of activity as of yet. So it may or may not open as a Travelodge but if it does it's not going to happen in time for this season.

If anything does happen it will no doubt be reported here first - http://threetownsforum.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,42.700.html

p.s. It is the former Clarence Hotel, which to be honest I thought was a bit of a strange site for Travelodge given that there's no car park on on-street parking nearby is limited, especially during the summer. The Clarence used to rely on coach parties of OAPs from Yorkshire so parking wasn't as much of issue in the past!
The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water

It's being reported in the local press today that work on The Clarence will recommence this month to convert it into a Travelodge and retail units. It's been almost two years since Travelodge first announced they were planning on moving in and more than twelve months since work ground to a halt. There's no indication as to how long the work will take to complete and when the new hotel will open but I'd imagine it won't be in time for this year's holiday season.

Work has finally got going at the Clarence after a great deal of delay so hopefully the new Travelodge should be open sometime next year.

Meanwhile it's also been announced that Premier Inn will be taking over the derelict Tudno Castle Hotel at the other end of town, work is due to commence early next year, so if everything goes to plan Llandudno should have both a Travelodge and a Premier Inn in the town centre by this time next year.

The Tudno Castle is the one next to Bog Island that backs on to the new retail park.

This one (although it's a bit tattier now) -

Thanks Andy, that's great! That is the one I thought.
We spent our very first stay in Llandudno at that hotel. It was literally a spare of the moment, throw a few things in a holdall and go, anywhere will do , type of thing! Though the was very 'tired' , and needed a major face-lift ( bit like myself really!) we had a brilliant time and have visited many times since, staying elsewhere of course!!

Many thanks again for the up-date, its much appreciated !!

P.S..We stayed in the room far right, first floor ( bay window ) !! ( great for people watching!!!)
