Professional publishing would bear no need for an Apple product. Both use the Adobe Suite of applications, both of which run on either MAC or PC and both of which use Intel Processors.

Yeah before apple moved over to intel, then yes Apple would be the choice of machines for publishing, not any more.

Some designers still use them as they look nice on there desk.

Why not? It's just a normal PC in a DELL case. There is no proprietary hardware here. :)

  • Thanks for all your replies. i think i will wait until i can afford an i7 now for a desktop! Will try doing it on my 2nd gen i5 M450 laptop. All this has made me think about the importance of getting the same colours on the screen (both laptop and desktop) and on the printer!

What printer do you have. In order for the screen and printer to print exactly what you see on screen is by using icc profiles and in order to do, you need to calibrate the screen and calibrate the printer.

These calibration devices are not cheap.

  • I have 2 old-ish printers. A HP photosmart 2600 series muitifunction and an Canon S9000 A3 printer. One, if not both, i could not find any current drivers for Windows 7, so using (i think its called) a generic driver. So probably not got the greatest control over them.
Not prepared to spend a great deal of money on calibration. The Canon has not caused any problem with the colours when i print my A3 prints, but then again i have not looked closely
