Skylanders Power of Portal problem!

Alright!
Bit of a long shot but I've hit a brick wall so I thought I'd try on here!
My son has the two Skylanders game on the Wii and loves playing them. Recently it stopped working. We can't get the red light on the USB reciever to go on so it seems as if it's failing to pick up a signal from the Power of Portal.
I've had a look on eBay for a replacement but they're £20+. I've emailed the compnay (Activision) as it's less than a year old and I'm hoping that they'll replace it but as of yet I've not heard back.
I know you can buy a battery charging pack for it which connects to the Wii but does anyone know if this will do the job the USB receiver does? Or does anyone else have any suggestions?

You will need to change the battery in the portal, they don not last forever..simples, I know I have oneYou live..You learn.:)0
