Problem sending emails now changed internet service provider

I have a wanadoo email address but use Outlook to send and receive my emails, I had no problems whilst I was with Orange, however now i have changed to Virgin I can only receive emails , when i try and send one I get the following error message. ( via Outlook)
Task ****@***.wanadoo.co.uk - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC0F) : 'the connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or Internet Service provider.
If I access my Orange account ( which I believe should remain active for around 3 months) I can receive emails (although they go directly to my Outlook and only the spam stays there) but I can also send them through here ~ but I want to be able to send them via Outlook like i have always done.
I just don't understand the problem ~ I have not tampered with anything either before or since my switchover on Friday.
Can anyone help?

Like most ISPs Orange will not allow you to send emails from another ISP connection using Outlook/Outlook Express or any client. You will have to use webmail and tell everyone your new email address. Suggest you join GMail to stay independent of ISP based emails.

I would guess that you will need to change the Outlook outgoing mail server (SMTP) setting from the wanandoo/Orange to virgin. i.e. mail.virgin.net see here

ISP's often will only allow sending though their own server that you are subscribing to as a spam prevention measure.

  • if you're not paying for wannado anymore why should they continue to let you have an email address with them?
And I doubt virgin will let you access a former ISP's account through their services.

True but usually if the e-mail is accessed via PAYG dial-up every few months the account will stay active and can be used via an e-mail client.

yep youll have to change your smtp settings, but best of all is to get another email address and just do a group BCC email to all of your contacts telling them your change of email address, gmaill/googlemail is ok but wont be scanned by most email virus scanners as its web based mail I suggest you get a pop based email address as then it will be scanning any incoming messages for viruses.

It can be accessed via a POP3 e-mail client.

didnt say it couldnt be but its webmail and not true pop3 or pop so doesnt get scanned by a resident scanner properly as AV updates play havoc with webmail based email even though it can be put through pop or pop3.

    Thats a clever reply (NOT)

No your wrong and have no solid argument so wrote twaddle but I shall explain all for you, I used to use AVG but now use Avast and the way they handle server request is a little different to how a domain named email address works i.e a person who uses virgin media may have and address of pop3.mail.virgin.net and smtp.virgin.net and because this adress is associated with your account and the virgin domain it stays 100% on the same IP numbers but webmail based email is slightly different and isnt as static as everyone thinks as an actual googlemail or yahoo adress is with in a folder on a server thats how you get your storage as the are always allocating more folder space and are adding more server space.

now when you set up AV scanning you will have to change the 127.0.0.1 format for scanning email and this happens to get interfered with by AV updates, and with avast its even more of a nightmare as you need stunnel set up.
