TV faulty within 28 days - company won't collect

  • It was pretty inconvenient - I had to hire a van! Although that was because I didn't want to wait a week. Returning it myself will mean I have to hire a van and use half a day of my weekend again. I bought it there because it was significantly cheaper than elsewhere, no other reason.

    What I don't get is how they can charge £40 to pick it up, yet if I had let them deliver it for free (obviously at their expense) they'd pick it up for free?

    Where I used to work used to operate a similar policy, but they didn't offer free delivery. The delivery charge bought you the privilege of a collection if necessary.

    But I think they'll take the stance of if you found it reasonable to collect, you should also see it reasonable to return. If you keep pushing they might change their minds, but like I said, I'm not 100% your argument will hold up in court.

    I was looking at SOG quotes earlier, and stumbled across this link to Which?. I know it's referring to goods bought online, but the text stands up, doesn't it?

    It would seem so! Not entirely sure that it would stand up as you did collect, but definitely worth a try!

    Nope. Online is totally different due to the DSRs.

    I think the issue here is that you bought a TV and brought it home yourself and now you want a refund, not a repair or exchange and your not prepared to bring it back to them.
    If its only a sound bar connection fault, why not except an exchange for a new TV as your not stating that there's any other issues with it?
  • They don't have any more of that set, so it's not an option. Plus I've found a much better deal elsewhere.

    The Samsung engineer said that "the whole board needs replacing", whatever that means. I could have it repaired, but I don't want to spend £1100 on a TV that arrived faulty. That can't bode well.

    Put some of the savings toward the cost of returning the tv then.
