Need to transfer a folder from my laptop hard drive to an NAS drive. The folder contains over 14000 files, totalling over 140gb.
If i connect laptop to router via ethernet rather than wirelessly, how long should the transfer take?

About an hour at 300 Mbps, which is a reasonable throughput on Gigabit ethernet.
If it's Fast ethernet then about 5 hours.
That's assuming you really mean 140 gigabyte folder size.604!0 -
Yes, I did mean 140 gigabytes.0

It will probably take longer because of the number of files. i.e. it takes longer to copy 14000 files totalling 140Gb than one 140Gb file. It's definitely the way forward though. A friend asked me to transfer their 80Gb iTunes library to their NAS over Wireless N it was going to take 8 hours. Plugged straight in to the router took 25 minutes.
You'll never get 300mb though, it will sit more around 80-100 taking into account disk access.0 -
Teracopy will help speed things up with large numbers of files (asuming Windows).0
