We got about £120 when we sold our Clio via Ebay. It was a few years ago and it was a N reg. Cam belt had gone and it wouldn't start. We were in London through so I don't know if that helped.

Take it for an MOT at a different MOT station, see what it really needs.

    THIS.

Also I'd add the following which is my point of view about MOT repair costs.

£1000 nowadays is banger money. £1000 would see you buying a car that's going to have problems or ones likely to appear very soon and you'll not know what they are until you've parted with your money. The next MOT is likely to see something expensive needing to be done.

Whilst £1000 might sound a lot of money to get a car through a test, if the car is in overall good body condition in many cases it is worth it. You have a car where you know its faults. £1000 of repairs are going to involve some that won't need doing again for several years such as full suspension or a reconditioned engine.

It is actually cheaper to spend £1000 on MOT repairs than to get £150 for it in scrap, add another £850 to buy a £1000 banger and then have to pay for any repairs that needs that you find after you've had it a few weeks.

If you aren't going to take yourself to a scrapyard in the next couple of days, declare it SORN and leave it on your driveway. There's no hurry about someone collecting it once it's off the road, assuming they will load it on something rather than drive it.

I am not going to be able to drive it legally from February (no MOT) as I cannot take it off the road, I live in a Victorian area and noone has any of road parking.

    There is no driveway.
