Older brides

Hi i wondered if there were any more mature brides out there and if so what did/will you wear on your day. I'm getting married this year in a hotel with about 30 guests, i have bought a traditional ivory gown nothing too over the top quite simple with a beaded bodice no train and a bolero to cover my arms, i think the dress is lovely i wanted elegant, but i am getting a bit jittery wondering if i will look like mutton dressed as lamb :o i will be 52 on the big day although i flatter myself i look younger. Could i have some opinions please :)

Ill be 34. But i say ur dress sounds lovely and if you feel you look good and you feel good then stuff what everyone else might think (they are your family and friends so theyll think you look beautiful as they love you, and you will) anyway. Keep jewellery and bling subtle, natural hairstyle and make up if u still have wobbles. Youll feel more comfortable that way :)

Hi , another older bride here , I get married on 4 May , and am 53 .
I am having a vintage style ivory lace (knee length) dress , it s in the process of being made at the moment.
My theme is vintage lace and wildflowers so flowergirl s in gorgeous
    Monsoon dresses with wildflower wands.
I still have loads to do . My first wedding I was a bit of a hippy/biker chic , so not really into being dressed up , I did have a white wedding , but don't remember being bothered about hair , makeup or themes , so this time round I am going to enjoy the planning.
Oh , and I intend to have a tiara , I can't see me having occasion to wear one again in my lifetime , so I am having one (stamps foot) :rotfl:

Hi, I will be 45 when I get married in August this year and I am having a lovely long dress with a train, veil, tiara, fabulous high heel shoes and am intending to enjoy the experience. I have been married before too, but have always compromised really and this time I thought, no, stuff it, I am having what I want and I am not giving two hoots about what anyone else thinks! My daughter doesn't really like my dress as she doesn't think it is traditional enough but as she isn't wearing it I have told her that I love it and it suits me, so tough. I guess this time I also feel more comfortable in my own skin and I am very happy so am more confident about it all. Enjoy! x
  • Thank you scrumpy:) i think keeping everything else simple is the key:)
Karen your theme sounds lovely :T:T
I have looked at tea length dresses which i love but it would mean selling my dress and starting again :o it's my second marriage my last one was in the 80's : i had a white wedding then in which i did a marvellous impersonation of a meringue :rotfl:

Your dress sounds good and if it felt right when you tried it on, go with it.

If you're still jittery about it, could you ask a friend who will give you an honest answer whether it looks right on you.
  • sdr good for you :T:T i'm glad you feel confident and am sure you will look stunning on the day good luck :)

Hi i showed a friend at work a photo and she thought it was a gorgeous dress i did ask her whether she thought i was too old for it and she said absolutely not :) however my other friend is of the opinion that i should be just going to the local registry office and not make a fuss :o she thinks it's all a waste of money, each to their own;) but i believe although it's a second wedding it's just as important as any wedding :)

But that's not her opinion of what you look like in your dress!

Trust the first friend and stop worrying about it.
  • It is your day and do not worry! Your dress sounds very stylist. Consider yourself very lucky to have found love and just enjoy the day. A few of my older friends have married and everyone has had a different theme and looked fantastic!
  • Just to look at it from another perspective I'm in my early 20's but look soooo young. I've ruled out lots of dresses as they either look to old for me or I look like a 12 year old playing dress up :( People keep telling me I'll appreciate it when I'm older, they've been saying this for years but I'm still looking forward to that day coming.....
