Hi, Quick question...

I work 18 hours a week and my partner just come out of work, should we make a JSA joint claim? Or should my partner just do a single claim?

It says you can claim JSA under 24 hours on joint claims, is the 24 hours combined with 2 people (IE 12+12) or can it be 1 person working (IE 23 hours)??

Thanks

    You cannot choose.
If you are single, you make a single claim.
If you are a couple, you make a couples claim.

If you are not earning minimum wage, it is unlikely your partner can claim any income-related JSA.
Contributions based JSA is paid only with regards to the claimant, for a 6 month period.

Presumig that your partner is entitled to contribution JSA they would get £71 for six months. Income based would be £111 for both of you but take your earnings into account.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Okay, Ill make a joint claim...

    I get £111.42 a week & just noticed - couple both age 18 or over - £111.45

So I'm guessing me & my partner wont get any money from them but both will have to sign on every 2 weeks?

Would your partner get contribution based though as your earnings have no bearing on this.

If they have paid sufficient NI contributions then they will be able to get £71 per week for six months.

She will need to have worked significantly in tax years 2010/11 and 11/12.
