Any fish finger fans?

After reading in the organic thread that nearly all supermarkets including now Morrisons are now selling meat from animals fed genetically modified feed  because its cheaper, I think I'm going to switch to fish. Here is proof that using GM feed is stupid:
"Toxins implanted into GM food crops to kill pests are reaching the bloodstreams of women and unborn babies, alarming research has revealed. A landmark study found 93 per cent of blood samples taken from pregnant women and 80 per cent from umbilical cords tested positive for traces of the chemicals." http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1388888/GM-food-toxins-blood-93-unborn-babies.html
Here is the list of supermarkets selling meat from animals fed GM crops:

so..
Is there a big difference between value fish fingers and birds eye etc. Cod vs pollock, which one do you prefer etc. Any recommendations would be great.

hi berbastrike Some brands will specify cod or haddock or even salmon, but most fish fingers come from whatever white fish the fisherman caught.
Fish fingers are probably the odd bits of fish left over after the fillets or steaks are cut, but unlike with meat, different parts of a fish aren't a lower quality.
So the difference between the premium brand and value comes down to the crumb mixture. If you're looking for low carb, I found generally the value ranges are less carby.
Nigella Lawson is a fish finger fan. In one programme she made erself a late night snack by putting three cooked but cold fish fingers in a large white roll and slaping mayo on.0 -
thanks, my heads just kind of in knots at why these companies are modifying the fresh food we get in the supermarket, all about profits, so frustrating. Its just a matter of time before the UK sells GM modified produce like America.
have you came across any organic (eg breadcrumbs) Edwardia?0 -
Organic farmed fish, yes - had some salmon fillets for dinner 2 for $4 from ASDA fresh fish counter, saved 56p. OH really liked them.
Organic fish fingers, not yet.
Organic breadcrumbs, yes, online from companies which supply ingredients for sausagemaking.
Making your own with wild/organic farmed fish is a feasible idea.0 -

We're fish finger fans to a degree. I keep a pack to make occasional fish finger sandwiches for lunch (If Nigella likes them then I'm in good company;)). I like them with tatare sauce, DH has ketchup (peasant!!).
I feel I should like Birds Eye made with a 'reputable' fish like cod or haddock but TBH I've had Aldi own brand made with 'fish' (probably pollock) and with the sauce added there's not much difference in taste. It's worth looking at the ingredients to see the %age fish. I always by the crumbed ones as less fat than the battered sort.0 -
My 18yo son likes fish fingers but is quite fussy about which he will eat. He likes breaded and tbh only Birdseye. Before you start - he just turned 18 this month, still at college and home
Over the years I have tried out most brands on him and I do actually taste test myself and agree Birdseye do make the best fish fingers.0 -
I like a fish finger & ketchup sandwich. We use the Farmfoods ones (Young's?) which are fine. Pack of 36 for something like £2."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

I quite like a nice fish finger sandwich myself but am quite fussy about which I buy. For a start they have to be either haddock or cod. If on a serious economy drive then I would settle for Birds Eye but much prefer either M & S chunky ones or Sainsbury's Taste the Difference chunky ones. I always have a supply of one sort or another in the freezer as it's the staple diet of the eldest DGD!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

Fish fingers...well its all in the packaging. Look in any supermarket freezer and you will see items called fish fingers and thats what they are...fingers of fish...any fish. If you scan the contents you might find out what sort of fish. Premium brands will state that they are haddock or cod and what percentage. Fish fingers are just like Red Rum burgers..you get what you pay for.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

Can't beat a good fish finger butty, the only time I eat white bread.
4 fishfingers on a round of bread, large dollop of tartare sauce then a cheese slice topped off with another round of bread.
Some of the cheap brands can be a bit limp, we like them nice and crispy.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140
