Last week I was unfortunate enough to be involved in a shunt. I was stopped at the traffic lights when another car ran into me. And then, when I got out of the car to exchange details, reversed away and drove off!
Now, I probably would have been happy to sort this out between ourselves if the other driver had just stopped to apologise. After all, accidents do happen and I don't really want all the calls from ambulance chasers that come with any insurance claim.
So because they didn't stop I've reported it to the police but I still don't really want to report it to my insurance company - apart from the ambulance chasers I'm worried that I will lose no-claims discount and have to pay higher premiums even though I wasn't at fault.
What do you think? Would you claim or get an estimate from a small bodyshop before deciding? And how long do you have to make a claim?
TP

If the damage is going to be less than your excess, I personally wouldn't bother claiming!House deposit £2800/£10000
:j£7200 in 24 months = £300 a month:j0 -
aren't you obliged (since you have contacted the Police) to contact your inswerants company?
or will it not flag up to the insurance co when the police follow it up?just in case you need to know:

If you have the reg number of the hit and run then you can use the mib untraced driver scheme.
If you cannot id the third party then any claim will mean loss of ncd (if unprotected) as well as paying your excess.0 -

I have no idea. I'm sure the insurance company would like me to claim so they can sell my details to the ambulance chasers.fannyadams wrote: »aren't you obliged (since you have contacted the Police) to contact your inswerants company?

No loss of ncd if you use mib.
Do dummy quotes online to see what difference it makes to the premium0 -
I would weigh up the long term cost of informing my insurance company against the cost of using the local scrap yard and a couple of hours of my/someones time.(put it down to lifes rich tapestry/bad luck)I am a LandLord,(under review) so there!:p0
