could you expand on snowleopards idea
baking scones and freezing
then make lots of little sandwiches
do a "high tea"
ask a few folks if they have a tea set you can borrow, we all have one tucked away somewhere
then you can make paper bunting for decor0 -
Hiya chirpy can't believe our handsome franklin is 6.5weeks old!
I agree with most of the above, ou can easy do it on your budget. My DD who is now 25! I made cream buns with strawberries and just served tea/coffee, like yours mine was very close friends or family and they all just wanted to share her day and have a cuddle. No invites- not necessary for people you are so close to, the cake you friend is making will be centre piece so no decorations necessary. Just enjoy the dayxxx
The secret of Christmas
It's not the things you do at Christmastime
But the Christmas things you do
All year through0 -
Fab ideas on here. Love the afternoon tea idea. You could also ask people to bring something for the buffet? Even if it's just drinks?

I will forget about Godparent gifts thank you - I wasn't sure if this was something that was necessary.
We will have 17 adults and 5 children back to our house.
Oh and this is leaving it a couple of months and saving up.
We are on a very tight budget.
I have asked on freecycle to see if anyone has an outfit I could have/borrow.
Thank you for the help so far.
This is part of what will make this day special - everyone working together to make it lovely.
For decoration, I am sure that you can ask the local brownies if they would be willing to make paper decorations for you?0 -
Well you learn something every day. Sorry, but I had no idea christenings were free of charge.0

Hello everyone
Thank you so much for all of your ideas.
We are definitely going to use the high tea idea.
I will keep this thread updated with the costs of everything so people can see what the total ends as.
A friend of mine is lending me something to wear and I just have to pay for postage to return it when I am finished which is so kindEverything is always better after a cup of tea0 -
Have been watching this thread out of interest. Sounds like you have got it altogether.
I was just going to suggest that as "thank you"s for coming/ gifts/ helping that you take photos of each person/group with your baby and then print them off (either on your printer or at a machine) and make them into very individual cards and as memories of a very special day.
have a very special day...and enjoy!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

I have every faith that you can do it! I cant believe Franklin is 6.5 weeks old already! For decorations Id go for simple and pretty, some paper streamers (cheap on amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Crepe-Paper-Streamer-Party-Decoration/dp/B001TNQJQG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1359746622&sr=8-1 ) blue bunting and a few balloons. x'They only had one cow!'0

Hope this helps, but FarmFoods or Aldi if you have one are really good for bread £1/loaf or sometimes on offer. I would suggest you make a traybake which cut into finger slices could feed 24. Also would recommend you make double batch of say fairy cakes and then if you put half in muffin cases decorate with a swirl of butter cream could colour blue - everyone loves these - kids and adults alike. Really easy and quick to make - lemon cake is another good one.
Also re decorations a cheap one is making paper chains - just cut strips of paper, kids love to do these sometimes get kits in £shop. Also I'm sure there'll be someone in your family who loves baking and would gladly help out and enjoy doing so. Also balloons are fab as kids are drawn to them - just need a bit of space. Whatever you do, it will be lovely because you're celebrating your son's christening0 -
Baptisms are wonderful events! And as everyone above has attested, really cheap to pull off.
Get your family involved on the catering side. Or, if that isn't an option, bake then freeze a few things every week in the weeks leading up to event.
Wonderful, suitable clothing for a baptism can be found on eBay. (If your child had been a girl I'd have offered to send you the dress my youngest wore.)
Our eldest wore a beautiful traditional dress supplied by a charity shop. We asked several charity shops to be on the look out for something in the lead up to her day. I gave them my phone number, and more than one called to say they'd found something that might be what we were looking for. We simply said, 'No thanks.' to the garments that did not meet muster.
Wishing you a wonderful day for your son and family!0
