Can Price and Purcahse Protection Insurance be claimed as Mis-sold like PPI?

Hi All,
My wife discovered she had been paying "Price and Purchase Protection" on a store card for a long time. She had no recollection of asking for it and it was certainly not explained to her at the time she took out the card. She has written to the finance company asking them to investigate the mis-selling of PPI (Believing that the monthly payment she was making was PPI when it was actually Price and Purchase Protection) they have replied stating that she has never paid PPI on her account. Has anyone had any success in reclaiming this type of insurance on a card based on mis-selling? The principle seems the same in that she was never aware she had signed up for it. They were charging £1.85 per £100.00 of balance per month before she became aware of it and cancelled it. My wife (when the card was loaded) was paying almost £50.00 per month for this.

Thanks

Your two statements here contradict each other. How can you say she was not aware of the insurance if she was paying £50 a month for it?
It would have been itemised in every monthly statement on a separate line.

It was only after she became aware of the PPI scandal that she checked her statements. That was when she realised she was paying this fee. The amount I quoted is an example from one of her statements at that time. Sure it was shown on all of her previous statements although she never questioned it until she became aware of the PPI mis-selling.

    Hope that clarifies matters.

So she was happy to pay the insurance beforehand?
I think you need stronger complaint reasons than that;look here

Why do you think that your wife not remembering signing up for the insurance is somehow mis-selling?

Moneyineptitude thanks for replying. I'm not trying to build a case here. The issue is she was not aware at the time she took out the card that she was agreeing to take out this insurance. The initial question still remains unanswered, Can Price and Purchase Protection Insurance be claimed as Mis-sold like PPI? I totally accept that the deduction was itemised on her statements from day one. It's not simply a case that she was happy to pay, our concern is that she was paying for something in ignorance. Ignorance is not always bliss :)

You can complain about ANY insurance. Success depends on whether or not you can show it was mis-sold to you. Currently, you don't have a very strong case.

The fundamental question is, why are you claiming that the Price and Purchase Protection Insurance are mis-sold? What exactly has the firm done that makes you believe that this product was mis-sold? Claiming ignorance is not bliss, you are correct. You have to demonstrate that the firm in question has acted unreasonably towards you in some way. Saying "my wife did not know she was paying for it" is after all is your wife's fault for not reading the documentation she was provided with.

How has the firm treated you unreasonable? If you can answer this question, you simply submit a complaint to the company and state your reasons why!
