if you go down the ebay route i can thoroughly recommend the seller rayhymas. i have bought 2 pocket sprung mattress from this seller. they are £130 + £25 delivery (he delivers them himself).at least half the price of the usual bed shops.

Tim Deegan - the matress that was posted above at ikea is make from Polyurethane foam - the price looks good but i cant see any info on the depth of the memory foam. any advice? is polyurethane any good?

I have also see some places selling just the memory foam i.e. about 2inchs of memory foam that lays over your exisitng matress. The springs on my current one have gone so do you think it would be worthwhile just getting a totally new one or buy these memory foam layers to go on top of what i have?

    thanks for any advice.

Your right, it doesn't give much info about the mattress, although it does seem very cheap, so I wouldn't think that the memory foam would be very deep, but I wouldn't like to say. As for the polyurethane foam, there are different types of memory foam, and they all have good and bad points, but the thing that concerns me most about the mattress in question is that the foam underneath is very low density. This could cause the mattress to dip, which could cause your spine to curve.

The other thing with Ikea mattresses is that they are continental sizes (not standard Uk sizes).

I've never owned an Ikea mattress, but they do get a slating in these forums (and from some of my customers who have owned them before) for their quality. But saying that they may be ok for the low price.

It's worth finding out. Many sellers on ebay charge postage on returns (even when returning under the guarantee). This is something to bear in mind as the mattresses seem too cheap to be good quality.

mattressman is a very good seller, with a very good reputation, and low prices (not the cheapest). However they still charge for returns if you decide you don't like the mattress. This is from their returns and cancellation policy:

'However, on REPLACEMENTS and CANCELATIONS we reserve our right to and will generally seek to recover the cost of return, which would be deducted from the refund amount or added to any upgrade. The charges for collection are as follows:

Single sized item [£50] (per item)
Double sized item [£55] (per item)
King sized item [£55] (per item)
Super King sized item [£60] (per item); or

6.2.3 your making arrangements at your expense for the carriage and the return of the product(s) to us. Please ensure that these product(s) are wrapped well and in their original wrappings. Product(s) will remain the responsibility of you until they are received by us, following which we will refund payment, provided always that the product(s) are received by us undamaged.'

Obviously this could prove expensive as you would be buying without trying. There are sellers who don't charge for postage on returns.
