unemployed and would like help finding a flat

Hi, I am currently unemployed and staying at my parents in their dining room, and would really like to find a flat in edinburgh to stay in.
I don't want to be on benefit forever and plan to go back to college at the end of August.
The problem is i don't have money for a deposit for a flat and you can't get any help with paying rent if you go back to full time education!

So much for being able to better yourself!

Can anyone help?

I really need to get away from here, it's not doing my health any good and have no where to go.

theres improving yourself and then theirs messing about pretending to learn while the uni gets payed by the government and you run up massive debts. be sure what you do at unit will be worthwhile and actually benifit you.

i regard going to unit as a bit of a waste of time since ive never really used my degree and i did mechanical engineering !!!!!!, not exactly an easy option. i constantly meet people with computing etc degrees working in call centers while i work for a tier 1 IT supplier with no formal training, weird or what.

thougth of getting a job and going to college part time, my full time course had loads of free time so it should be possible, i also find workpaces do tend to give you a broader view of the world from management and H&S to they systems and techniques the employ. obviously the level of insperation you get will depend on the job, i cant pictur a kfc chip frier being much fun.

job wise theres bound to be loads of nightshift type jobs that pay over the odds and give you free time. bloke in my class years ago reconed if you got a job in a casino you were set since they payed well, mostly weekends etc so the hours never clashed with his course.
  • Hi, thanks for the reply.
It's only college not uni i'm going back to, doing beauty therapy which i want a career in.

Somthing will turn up i'm sure, just finding it hard to get a job at the mo.

a brothel = get a job & shelter as well.

there must be loads up in Edinburgh, granted I bet the money isn't too great though, PLUS you could practice your "massages" on your "clients". ;)

alternatively contact some housing association saying you're on benefits, got no money & nowhere to live (say your mum & dad have kicked you out), they'll house you.

good luck whichever path you take, but if you go for the first option let us know in case I'm ever up that way :D

Have you thought about a job that's likely to offer accomodation - i.e. pub/hotel work? It's not ideal, but it'll give you somewhere to live, and an income. Also, it seems to be the case that many employers prefer to hire people who are already working rather than people who're currently unemployed. Good luck with going back to college; personally I'd not listen to people who tell you it's not worthwhile as a lot depends on the kind of study you want to do and the local job market. It may get harder before it gets easier, but it *will* get easier!
