Advice on SMI and splitting up

My partner and I are splitting up. He currently receives carers allowance for me as I am on DLA.
The mortgage is in my sole name and he made a joint claim for income support when he started to look after me.
Once he goes and I make a claim (I understand it will be ESA as I am not yet able to work) will I be able to claim SMI and will it be a new claim or a run on?
TIA

I did look at this and have tried to find some information.
My instinct is that if the OP is already claiming SMI and is on IS (means tested benefit) then if she changes to another means tested benefits, ESA, then the SMI should continue.
The only reference I can find is on here http://www.turn2us.org.uk/information__resources/benefits/housing_costs/homeowner_housing_costs_help.aspx?page=16612
that says if you change from one benefit to another and not already claiming SMI then the wait of 13 weeks can take longer.
Not very helpful.
To be honest, if you move from one benefit to another- even if you are on SMI already - then I suspect the move will 'trigger' a stop of the SMI but would then be reinstated and backdated to the changeover date.
My only suggestion is to ring and ask - sorry not to be more helpful.0
