If you are like me and nothing seems to work for you, Boots do an Alternatives range which is a herbal remedy and they have a range for Hayfever sufferers. For 72 tablets you pay £4.40, a bargain and they do work. Have recommended them to a lot of people.0

Its worth pointing out there is a difference between Zirtek and the Cetirizine generics, the active ingredient for Zirtek is Cetirizine Dihydrochloride whereas in most of the generics it is Cetirizine Hydrochloride. Without going into too much detail in the chemistry, this does actually make a fair bit of difference, and as with all allergy meds, you may find one works for you and one doesn't.
Having said that the active ingredient in the Tesco's "CD" is actually the Dihydrocholride one. So if you find that the boots, superdrug etc version of the CD do not work, give the Tesco ones a try.0 -
I buy a 500 tub of Chlorophenamine Maleate (Piriton) for my dog for £8.15, I have to order it from the chemist but it only takes a few days. I guess most people wouldn't use these as they are an older type of tablet that can make you drowsy, but surely if you can buy these in such a quantity you can buy any of the generics in bulk at a good price? If you need lots(which we do) it's worth it!0

Is it true that you only get hayfever in 7 year stints? I'm sure my doctor told me that!! Anyhoo...as the Hayefever season is upon us, its good to stock up on the remedies. I've got mine but so far I haven't needed to use one yet? Any ideas why as normally at this time of year my nose would be dripping like a tap, my eyes would be REALLY itchy/sore etc. and I would normally have trouble breathing but er...I'm fine!English by birth. Zipman - not sure about the 7 year stints but like you by now I'm usually sneezing, runny eyes and nose, etc, etc. Perhaps it's because I stocked well in advance with the medication (cheap ones, of course!).0

Well long may it continue. I think I got 2x 7 packs from Superdrug for about £2 and then I saw a 7 pack in Netto for about 70p so got some of those too. I hate my hayfever but if I dont need to use any of my tablets, then I won't. They'll only keep until next year or for when I need to start using them. When I go abroad on holiday though I'm also fine. I think this is down to it being a different type of heat abroad compared to the UKEnglish by birth. GEORDIE by the grace of God.0 -
What about Clarityn's replacement, formerly called Neo-Clarityn, now called Aerius? Generic name Desloratidine.
Anyone seen this about?Much of the social history of the Western world over the past three decades has involved replacing what worked with what sounded good. - Thomas Sowell, "Is Reality Optional?", 19930
