I received a letter from a debt collection agency on Friday about a 2.5K debt on an eggcard that I do not own, but is owned by somebody else at an address I previously lived at. I do have an account with egg but it is paid every month...

Can I do anything about this? I am slightly annoyed that egg can just pass my details to a debt collection agency for an account that I do not own. When I contacted egg they were as much use as a chocolate fire guard, I phoned on Friday and they have not responed yet.

is the credit agreement in your name? IF it is, and you have confirmed this card, and debt, as not being your own then you have been the victim of identity theft.

you need to contact the debt collection agency and egg card a.s.a.p , as this will have affected your credit rating, and if no action is taken, the debt collection agency will be after you for the money.

if the credit agreement is not in your name, contact the debt collection agency and tell them that no on of this name lives at your address ..

it sounds like you've opened someone elses mail, the card and letter weren't in your name and it's nothing to do with you - that'd also explain why egg weren't any use, they can't tell you anything about anothe persons accoung and the letter has no effect on you anyways
