i have an asus P8Z77-V mobo./i5 processor with hdmi/dvi-d/vga and display ports. i currently have 2 monitors but want to add a 3rd. i am using onboard graphics.
what is the best way of doing it and will i need to install a dedicated graphics card. if so, any recommendations? i don't do gaming.

what's the purpose of adding in a third monitor?
might be better investing in a bigger monitor for your dual setup?
You will definitely need a dedicated card, i seem to remember seeing a gigabyte card which had three outputs, no idea of the performance! or you could find a couple of cheaper cards and put two in...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. thanks. i need to view multiply full internet pages at the same time. don't know why but i have ati 7850 written down for a card. maybe over the top though. last time i installed a dedicated graphics card in another pc the graphics card performed worse than the onboard. i don't want to make that mistake again
i currently have 23" and 18" monitors"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -
The onboard you lost as having 3 outputs; converters could allow you to plug all three in without needing an additional card. But no promises on performance that way.
On my PC I use both outputs from my card, as well as one from my onboard, and had no problem; but it was a fairly powerful card (for 4 years ago), with 1G onboard video RAM.
If its purely for viewing stuff (I.e. not gaming or design applications) the power of the card(s) you buy will be relatively irrelevant.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -
On a side note; for dealing with multiple monitors, programs, pages, backgrounds, screen savers and task bars, a program called UltraMon is excellent!Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0
