Hi all
Im about to complete the puchase of a house so im looking at quotes for building insurance. One the questions on the forms is "Has your property ever shown signs of heave, landslip or subsidence?".
It says this on the builders survey
"The main walls showed signs of minor differential settlement, this is pronounced at the juncture of the extension and the raised patio area. This is not considered a major, significant defect and is to be anticipated having regards to the construction of the extension relative to the patio. Such movement tends to be seasonal or diurnal"
Answering yes to this question doubles the premium. What i want to know is, based on the wording of the question and the builders comments, would you answer yes? Are the 'signs of minor differential settlement' classed as 'landslip or subsidence'?

A chartered surveyor's opinion is what you need here. I wouldn't rely on what a builder has to say, TBH.
Settlement is not the same as subsidence, heave or landslip. If in doubt, put a survey in front of a broker and get it confirmed by an underwriter first.I am a mortgage broker.
