Great I thought. - beated the add on USB 3g device that I bought which means I will never forget to bring my 3g card because I have the sim card embedded at all times.
Only thing is though I'm conscious of having amobile phone so close to me at all times, who knows what the sigal is going to do.
Does anyone know if th 3g card communicates with the phone network when the 3G isn't connected.
Right now I have to dial into the 3g line to use the internet. So if I don't dial the number does it mean that the 3G isn't connected at all - and doesn't communite with the network (in this case o2) at all?
or is it like in a phone where it will always communicate with the server now and then whether or not it's "officially connected"

No, it's like old school dial up broadband. It may well poll the network but unless you dial up, nothing is going to happen0

yeah I suppose so. I think the solution would be to find a way to easily disable the 3g when not required. My laptop hotkey utility isn't working as well as I'd like. it;'s just turning all wireless on or off. Not allowing me to pick which ones I want individually.0
