Has anyone got a sauna or steam room in the their house?
I love the one at the gym, and would love to install one in a house
It's probably get use at least 3 times a week, if not more
What's the running costs of them? Any other pro's and con's?

I have never seen one in a house and have no experience of them.
Fundamental points would be; there are numerous posts about about condensation and about mould, a sauna room would, in all probability, add to these.
If they are easy to construct, and durable, why are they not offered in new homes?
If built; design, detailing and workmanship will be crucial. Long term durability will be suspect.
If you build one will it add or detract from the value of your home?0 -
I considered converting my small junk room into a sauna for a while but have now made it into an office, i thought that would add more to the value of the house.

What about a steam shower cubicle which takes place of bath or in addition if you ahve enough room.
Plenty of Scandinavian properties have them, often outside so could oput one in a shed/cabin.
Running costs depend on size of heater but as you don't use them for hours on end i would have thought they would cost that much overall to run. The initial purchase cost will be the main consideration.
Wouldn't worry too much about value adding etc - this is your home and its something you will use !0 -
ive seen them for sale in Macro, a trade warehouse near hull. they where about £1000 i think. it was pretty small abit like a standing tanning unit0

We've stayed in 2 houses (not ours) that had had saunas in them. Both were bog standard bungalows.
It seemed really odd walking into what looked like a very basic house, only to find a small sauna room in there too.
There wasn't any issues with condensation or mould as the rooms were well sealed.
I think this isn't a typically British 'thing' but is reasonably common in other countries.
I'd have one if money was no object. And I had a suitable house to put it in.Herman - MP for all!0
